A taste of Christmas

It's the last day of Creepmas at Smeared and Smudged. So sorry for the delay once again.

Interpret the above image as you like. Hehe. It's a digital card portraying some of my sad felt dolls. (Or actually they have a happy side too.) I'm busy finishing one of my Christmas gifts (that is the blonde doll, which was nearly headless yesterday hehe).

I have some Creepmas projects left which I never got around to post... but I can take that some other time. I forgot to post Molly in a Creepmas version though, so I will add her here (if anyone wants her). Merry Creepmas!

Merry Creepmas and Christmas to you all!

A star boy

As a kid I wanted to be a cop... until one day someone (a grown-up) told me I couldn't. So, I gave up that dream.

Then when I learned to write, writing became my main hobby. For 10 years I dreamed of becoming a writer... until one day someone (also a grown-up) told me I would never become one. So, I gave up that dream too.

I think that no one should ever tell a child that their dreams are wrong or not possible. That's why I'm so eager to tell children that they can be whatever they want to be. If boys want to play princesses, or girls want to play pirates, I will them: "Go for it."

Just like there are boys who dream about becoming princesses, there are boys (especially in the Nordic countries) who dream about becoming Saint Lucy for a day.

Here's a Saint Lucy choir from 2011, where a boy/man finally got to be Lucy. I think he is doing a great job.

Just like there are boys who want to be Lucy, there are girls who want to be Star Boys. So, I have made my digital stamp Molly into a Star Boy this time. Here she is celebrating the month of December as a Star Boy. (Or actually I have Molly in a Creepmas version, but I never got around to post it.)

Ps. 2.  Apparently I managed to get a Christian Fundamentalist here: someone who abuses the words of the Bible from a wishful thinking to get simple, clear rules of complex moral issues. At first it amused me, but then it really infuriated me. I'm not going to sugar-coat it. I assume you were not brought up in Europe in the shadows of the Holocaust, and therefore didn't learn from an early age that prejudices against people are bad ALWAYS. Even if you didn't learn that lesson, you should at least be able to learn from the reality which you are living in today. In that kind of reality, hate crimes against LGBTQ-people take lives. Bullying takes lives. 

If you are really concerned about other people's salvation, then you should really know that you could become liable to Biblicism. Biblicism can at worst become a form of idolatry, which is a serious crime against the First Commandment.

The Bible is really a book about God and NOT a book about human sexuality. Also if you claim to be a Christian, then it's Jesus that you should follow and not Paul. (Unless you are a Paulinian.)

The Christians who condemn homosexuality, think they are morally superior and therefore within their right to impose their morals on other people. Reality check: they are not. They condemn a group of people, based on certain Greek and Hebrew words, which they do not even understand. Most likely they follow a translation of the Bible, which hasn’t taken into account recent (i.e. less than 150 years ago) discoveries of Greek text materials (including papyri and inscriptions) that shed new light on Greek vocabulary. How can it be just and Christian to condemn a group of people, based on words like malakos and arsenokoites/arsenokoitai (which can’t even been found in the Greek translation Septuaginta of the Bible, 300 BCE)? It can't be justified. 

Hate can never be justified. God was not hateful. God's love was for everyone. 

~Well, that is if you believe in that sort of thing.

A princess boy

I'm not going to pretend that I can draw (which I know I basically suck at), but I have long felt so irritated at how stereotypical most digital stamps are that I'm now taking the matter into my own hands. Lol. Because so far I haven't seen a single princess boy. Yet, Christia Brown, Ph.D., a professor of developmental psychology, says it’s common for little boys to want to wear frilly dress-up clothes or have their nails painted.

So, why is the paper crafting world so behind? I have lately seen digital stamps with the theme "boys with their toys" (hmm yeah, it really is as bad as you would think) and girls dressed up as princesses. Always girls. Come on, are we living in the 50s? Oh wait, according to my mother, cross-gender play was still no news back in the 50s in China. Back then she played with toy cars, while her play-mate Greg took her dolls. Anyhow, this is my digital stamp Lou. A princess boy. Or princess boy girl. Or princess girl boy. (Why the need to put a label on everything, anyway?)

Yes, it's ugly, but I'm making a point here. Just yesterday I heard a woman talk about her nephew who likes pink and glitter, as if that was something strange or new. It's now 2013, and girls have dressed up as pirates or warriors as long back as I can remember. The girls who have dressed that way, have been encouraged and felt empowered. Boys who have dressed up in what's socially constructed female, have in contrast been seen as social outcasts or probably transgender (liking pink and glitter doesn't make one transgender). I have mentioned before that the kid I used to mentor was ashamed to admit to me that his favourite colour was pink. I feel that society shames our children. Society shames our children to not be who they are. That should have stopped a long time ago. But it's not too late to stop with it today. Now.
