Make bloom for beauty

A while ago I found a white frame at the Red Cross second hand store, and figured it would work fine for a painting of some sort. I also found some floral candle cuffs in another second hand store.

Then I created something out of my second hand findings...

I made the background out of cardboard that I still had left from my moving boxes. (I moved here some weeks ago.) I painted the cardboard with white and silver acrylic paint. To finish it up, I painted a layer with some metallic sand saint in white/silver. 

Here you can see the painting in my living room. :) I think it matches the other colours well.

Floral symphony

This is how I have interpreted the challenge.

The papers and stickers come from this 24 sheets multipurpose vintage paper deco stickers set. 

  

The metallic circle comes from a Pringles jar. I have used the bottom part.

Abstract art

Here's some 'abstract art' of mine. I've created a collage in mixed media.
I have used the following materials: paper, acrylic paint, glitter glaze and
cutouts from newspapers.

These are my first 100 % recycled cards. 

I used a base of recycled, handmade paper as the background. I wanted my cards to be rough around the edges, so I didn't cut the paper. Instead I tore the paper into rectangular pieces.

For the Peaks and valleys card I cut an old newspaper into stripes. I coloured the stripes with Indian ink and watercolours. I made the houses out of newspaper. The foundation of the houses is newspaper-white with a touch of white watercolour. The ceilings are coloured brown/orange with Indian ink. 

For the Blue me away card I made the sky out of handmade paper, which I painted with blue watercolour. The dandelion with seeds was found in a newspaper. I wanted to intensify the original colours in the dandelion, so I filled it with white, yellow, green and blue watercolours. I also gave the seeds a little touch of colour.

Sometimes a pencil sharpener is needed in order to make a good point

How to make your old pencil look like new:

Step 1: Cut a piece of paper (gift wrap paper, patterned paper or paper from magazine pages) that is as long as the pencil and wide enough to reach around it. 
Step 2: Apply plenty of glue on the paper and take some extra glue around the edges.
Step 3: Roll up the paper around the pencil. Be sure to glue the paper properly on your pencil, so that you can sharpen your pencil afterwards.

Why don't you freshen up your old pencils by covering them with some nice paper? It makes writing more fun. :)

Trashion fashion

Time for some trashion fashion! 

Here's a paper towel roll bracelet/toilet roll bracelet that I've made. It's easy peasy to make. My bracelet is made out of a cardboard tube, white glue, a waste cd, aluminum foil and small grey beads. You can create this kind of bracelet in some different ways. Here are some other examples: A, B, C

Dancing Queen

I felt inspired this weekend to create something new of an old cd. My scissors are not that sharp, so I had difficulties cutting out pieces. 

I first thought about making earrings, but later I just didn't fancy the idea that much. When looking at my white board I realized it would be cool with some new magnets.

You can see the result in the pictures. I think it's nice that the cut out pieces look purple (I have not added any kind of colour). The pieces come from the shiny underside of a cd.

Recycling can be fun :)

Is this the future way of knitting? By reusing plastic bags?

Well, I decided to try it. I'm not sure if I like the result. However knitting with plastic was quite fun. Basically I cut out 1 cm wide pieces from plastic bags. The length of the pieces varied. The length is unimportant since it's easy to knot the different pieces of plastic together (place the knots on the reverse side).

It would be cool to knit a durable bag out of plastic bags, with a lot of different colours. For now I have knitted a simple little bracelet.

Edit. I have continued with some plarn knitting. I haven't knitted a bag, but a hairband. In this particular hairband you can find plastic from cookie packets, tissue packets, cotton balls bags and plastic bags.

Smoothed by the Sea

In this post you can see some smoothed and beautiful pieces of sea glass, which I've collected from the beach.

In the photo to the left you can see how a little square-looking piece and a heart-looking-piece are glued together and stuck on a little circle of metal. I have tied it all on a string.

Lost at sea

Here's another sea glass object of mine. Basically it's a diadem, which I've decorated with a lot of small pieces of colourful sea glass (and loads of glue).

Sailing over wave and tide oh ho ho.

Fantastic waves against our sides oh ho ho.

And I'm not so afraid.

Lost in a melody

I thought I would share some of my home-made objects from last year. When I spent an evening at the beach I found some sea glass in the sand. Among those pieces I found this lovely piece of ocean glass. I glued the piece of glass on a little circle of metal. Then I tied it on a black string.

There's a lot of treasures out in the nature (even though some of them are not supposed to be there in the first place).  I find sea glass to be very beautiful and somehow unique. You just can't find a piece which looks exactly like the other.

The colour of the sea glass tells a story. This clear piece of glass comes from one of the following  sources: clear plates, glasses, windows or windshields.
